Tasting Notes

Winemaker Ntsiki Biyela has an incredible history as the first female black winemaker in South Africa. Her new label, Aslina, is named in honor of her grandmother. The Chardonnay is a pale straw color and full of lush yellow fruit with minerality and brilliant acidity.

Staff Pick Notes

Winemaker Ntsiki Biyela grew up in Mahlabathini, a rural village in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. She made history when she became the first Black woman winemaker in her home country. She named her winery Aslina, after her grandmother. Ntsiki's story is awesome, and so are her wines. I would happily drink this Chardonnay any night of the week. Although this wine hails from the new world, it has an old soul and would please any francophile. You'll find bright white fruit aromas on the nose and tart, firm peach and pear on the palate. It's medium bodied with high acidity. Pair this wine with simple summer dishes like pasta with lemons and capers or grilled salmon and arugula salad.
