Edmond Burke once said, “…your representative owes you, not only his industry, but his judgment; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion.” While Ed was talking about the House of Commons I don’t see why we can’t apply this sentiment to producers of food and wine. Mimi Casteel is the type of farmer we need right now. Her hard work and avant garde methods make tremendous wine and will change the world. While she sells a lot of her crop to some of the top winemakers in Oregon she also vinifies a small amount into Hope Well. A crème de la crème kind of Pinot Noir. She calls her farming regenerative agriculture. I call it the right thing to do.
