Pétillant Naturel Rosé, Weszeli - NV

Item # 42461 750mL

A pét-nat from the Weszeli winery in the Kamptal region. Its joyful color comes from 25-year-old Zweigelt grapes that were macerated for a day in steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation finished in-bottle and the wine was aged for 6 months on the lees before releasing.

Staff Pick Notes

I had the extraordinary chance to taste the fresh and lively pét-nat at a recent free tasting at Astor. Wow, was I blown away! Fresh rasperries and strawberries are supported by a strong mineral backbone with notes of white pepper and cinnamon. The nose is natural through and through while still having an air of wildness on the back end to support the fresh and lively fruit. Nothing mechanical is used in the vineyard, instead horses are used for everything on this organic farm from Zweigelt plantings dating back to 1976. Just a fun and fresh wine that makes a great date for a NYC park adventure.

Zweigelt, modestly named by Fritz Zweigelt of the Federal Institute for Viticulture and Pomology at Klosterneuburg, Austria in 1922, is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St.-Laurent. Offering some of the best attributes of both its parents, Zweigelt is very resistant to frost (an important trait to have when growing in chilly Austria) and ripens relatively early. It combines the...

Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
