Côtes du Rhône Brézème, Dom. l'Amandier - 2020

Item # 42648 750mL

Martin Texier began his own venture in wine in 2014 after a former life in economics. Today he has 5 ha of vines in many plots of many soils. This is a clear testament to the purity factor found in his wines as this is wild, robust yet focused and well-balanced with fresh acidity. Taste this blind and you will think you're drinking something from the northern Rhône.

Staff Pick Notes

The reputation of the N. Rhône was built by classic producers like Guigal, Gonon, Delas and Chave. Within the last decade, though, some of France's best natural wine producers have carved out their own niche here including Ooka, Souhaut, Dard & Ribo and Eric Texier. Eric's son, Martin, has now established his own, natural wine-focused production and he's crafted this terrific organic and low sulphur Syrah from the limestone slopes in Brézème. It's a medium-bodied wine on the palate yet there's impressive fruit density showing flavors of plum jam and ripe blackberries mixed with violet florals. While the ripeness of the vintage is apparent, the wine lacks any feeling of heaviness and is super quaffable. This really showcases the character of Brézème and should satisfy both the natural wine lover and the classicist alike.

Rhône

Prestige in the north, value in the south: that’s the quick version of the Rhône story. Southern village appellations produce a dizzying stylistic range of delicious wines, while the prices for northern “trophy” bottles can be dizzyingly high. If you like smoky, leathery, earthy, macho red wines, however, the wines of the northern Rhône are well worth it. Prestigious northern Rhône appellations include Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and St.-Joseph. In the southern Rhône, look to the village...

Syrah

We'd like to clear this up once and for all: the Shiraz grape is genetically identical to Syrah. Australian winemakers put "Shiraz" on the map (and, many would argue, vice versa), and the term is now used throughout much of the New World. Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
