Tasting Notes

The Missão is a half hectare plot of pre-Phylloxera Baga vines that was discovered after an elderly man offered Filippa a vineyard that he said he could no longer tend. In fact, she noted that it was meticulously nurtured and included 140 year old bush vines of the coveted Baga grape that is the region's signature. Needless to say, yields are miniscule (1-2 bunches produced per vine). The wine is aged for a year and a half in old barrels (500-600 liter sized).

A red grape that is mostly associated with central Portugal's Bairrada region, often made into rosé. Varietal wines made from Baga are generally dark and quite tannic: the best vintages produce truly age-worthy reds.
