François Voyer Napolean Grande Champagne Cognac

Legend has it that Napoleon took crates of Cognac into exile with him to the island of St. Helena, and his crew named it ‘Napoleon’s Cognac.’ Today, it’s an unofficial age designation comparable to XO, where the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend needs to be aged at least ten years.  Well, our good friends at François Voyer went above and beyond on this expression, where the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend is fourteen years old, and some over twenty years of age. Deep amber in the glass, we are treated to jasmine and stone fruits on the nose and an elegant palate of candied orange peel with hints of oak, all of which slowly merge for a soaring finish. And that’s why I always come back to François Voyer Napoleon for my weeknight after dinner treat, it’s an outstanding value that always delivers exactly what good Cognac is all about.
