Grignolino d'Asti, "San Patelu", Crotin 1897 - 2020

Item # 44983 750mL

From the sole winery in the village of Maretto in Asti, the Russo family specialize in the traditional grapes of the region. This Grignolino, whose name is derived from the grapes many seeds, is a stellar example of this Piedmontese variety. The grapes are hand-picked, are fermented and aged in stainless steel, and see about 7 days maceration on the skins. This light dry red wine has red fruit, floral, and herbaceous aromas. Pair this with roast pork and cabbage in mustard sauce.

Grignolino

The Grignolino grape derives its name from grignole, meaning "pips." This small-berried red variety makes some truly intriguing wines, because the grapes produce very little juice in proportion to the amount of pips and skins. These elements, combined in these proportions, yield deliciously earthy wines that are pale in color (often resembling Beaujolais), and unexpectedly tannic.
