Production Methods

Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Tasting Notes

This is made from the Sicilian red grape Nero d'Avola and comes from a limestone-based vineyard around Pachino in the Val di Noto area. A full-bodied, chocolatey red wine with a complex mix of black berries, vanilla, and mineral-driven tannins. It is always a favorite wine at the dinner table. This unfiltered bottling should be decanted to aerate the wine and separate the sediment.

Staff Pick Notes

One thing that every great chef and every great winemaker I know says is: Start with great ingredients and try no to get in their way. With fantastic fruit from a prestigious vineyard, the people at Gulfi couldn't agree more. There is a purity and focus to this wine. It carries that inherent Italian "rusticity" but also a polish and elegance reserved for the finest of wines. From Sicily and made from an under appreciated grape varietal, Nero d'Avola, this wine is an opportunity to enjoy something great and something different. Firm ripe tannins, dried red berries, fresh herbs, tobacco, and so on. Enjoy with grilled meat or just about anything cooked over a "live fire."
