Staff Pick Notes

The Rheingau is the birthplace of Riesling and it’s tough to imagine an environment more favorable for showcasing the grape’s potential. But the region’s storied reputation has taken a bit of a hit in recent decades, driven largely by complacency among elite growers. Thankfully, producers like Künstler quietly toil away, year in and year out rendering wines of exquisite nobility. The Hochheimer Kirchenstück Riesling Kabinett is a textural marvel. I suspect that if it were possible to uncoil each sip there'd be enough surface area to cover a ball field. It's also a spot on example of a dry riesling that has earned its balanced ripeness fair and square in the vineyard.
