Tabernero, Borgoña Demi-Sec Red, Chincha Valley - 2023

Item # 12389 750mL

The Tabernero winery is located in the Chincha Valley, located southeast of the capital, Lima. While it's not trendy to drink Peruvian wine, this is the very reason why we find this red wine so valuable. A touch sweet with aromas of candied cherries. On the palate, there is a touch of sweetness and a subtle reminder of cherry licorice.

Staff Pick Notes

One of the funnest things about the wine world is that there are so many different wines to taste! Any unfamiliar grape or region piques my natural curiosity and I'm excited to know more about it. I admit, I don't have a PhD in Peruvian wine but, having tasted this wine, I can't think of a better bottle to start one's education in the region. This off-dry style of wine is reminiscent of Brachetto d'Acqui from the Piedmont. The juice is bouncy and bursting with red fruit and flavors of cherry, grape, strawberry, and raspberry. It could easily work as an apéritif, much like Brachetto, but would also pair well with spicier dishes. The super-soft tannins make it a delight to drink without any food at all—so what are you waiting for? Seems like there is no excuse to NOT try it!
