Located in the southern part of Burgundy, Bouzeron is located in the Côte Chalonnaise region. All Bouzeron wines are made from one of the other white Burgundy grapes: Aligoté but in this case it's a particular version called Aligoté Doré ("Golden Aligoté) that gives lower yields and great aromatics. The wine is vinified in old wood foudres. After fermentation, the wine is aged for nearly a year before release.

Aligoté

The "other" white grape of Burgundy, Aligoté plays a struggling second fiddle to the regal white grape of the region, Chardonnay. Older Aligoté vines have been known to produce wines of high quality, displaying lovely citrusy and at times nutty characteristics - but even so, the remaining plantings of the grape are fast being uprooted to make even more space for the cultivation of Chardonnay.
