I can't recall the last time someone asked me to recommend a Verdicchio, a grape which I once heard a sommelier describe as "nice." Is there any worse compliment? I'll assume they were referring to its versatility; that being medium bodied, dry, but not overly acidic, and subtle in its aromatics. Which by no means translates as bland. Sartarelli's Verdicchio is a true testament, with a mineral nose that gives way to delicate pear, apricot, citrus and grass. A slightly bitter almond note makes for a savory finish. The clay soil of the northern Marche region provides excellent drainage, while the moderating breeze from the Adriatic Sea allows for even ripening. This wine is as friendly with grilled fish as it is with creamy cheeses. Nice... I mean, great job, Verdicchio!
