Staff Pick Notes

The wines of Henri Prudhon et Fils are an exceeding good value in terms of white Burgundies. I could go on about the terroir, the much more expensive wines from more famous neighboring vineyards, etc, but honestly this is just a fantastic bottle of beautiful Chardonnay. Lemon curd, frangipane, baking spices, and white pepper aromas and flavors flit around this full-bodied and richly textured gem. Intense, viscous, and flavorful, this is a fine example of the bold flavors that Burgundian winemaking techniques can achieve. The forty year old vines don't hurt either. Pair with intensely flavored cheese, mushrooms, fowl in cream sauces, and many other rich dishes. Prudhon will make your table sing.

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
