Anjou Blanc "Cuvée Les Rangs de Long," Ch. Soucherie - 2021

Item # 16080 750mL

From a producer known for exquisite Savennières comes this waxy, golden Chenin Blanc. Full-textured with notes of fresh peach, honeydew, and white flowers, all balanced by a crisp acidity. This is a white that does not try to be loved--it is simply lush and mineraled and honest. Drink it on its own or serve alongside buttery fish and salty chèvre.

Staff Pick Notes

This is one of the most beautiful white wines I have tasted in recent memory. It drinks like nectar, full of texture and a subtle honey finish. A whiff of white flowers lures us into a core of ripe pear and holds us there with mouth-watering minerals and a hint of salinity. A strong but well-balanced acidity keeps us coming back to the glass. I realize now that I’m referring to “us” as if writing using the royal We. It’s rather fitting for this wine, which is simply so elegant that its lingering finish makes me feel enthroned in my living room recliner, despite not costing a king’s purse. Now that I think of it, the Plantagenets used to hold court in Anjou. If only I had a court to share it with.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
