Radio-Coteau, "Belay" Pinot Noir - 2019

Item # 17783 750mL

A Pinot Noir that jumps out of the glass and offers immediate pleasure on the palate. Enjoy this alongside a braise. The vines for this wine lie ten miles from the ocean on a ridgetop above Occidental, where the land is uniformly comprised of fine sandy loam Goldridge soil – the remnants of an ancient seabed.

Staff Pick Notes

The estate vineyard of Radio Coteau sits ten miles from the Pacific on a mountain ridge just above the town of Occidental. Located 800 feet above sea level in the Sonoma Coast AVA, the vines are influenced by cool marine breezes & fog as well as grown according to biodynamic principles. The 2017 vintage was characterized by a wetter than usual winter, heat spikes beginning in June and forest fires just after the completion of harvest. Despite the climatic extremes, this Pinot Noir shows super fresh & well integrated aromas of strawberry, pie crust and earth. Elegant minerality presents itself on the palate, along with cranberry, crushed herbs, hibiscus tea, red plum skin & sandy tannins. These vines are still quite young, but with the varietal purity already so evident, I look forward to what future vintages hold in store.

More than a preference for how you discover these wines, the name reflects a commitment to capturing reflections of soil,...

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Here one finds renditions of Pinot Noir that deliver power with finesse and grace, wines that have unimaginable depth of flavor, yet are perfectly balanced and ephemeral in the mouth - in short, wines that deliver all that Pinot Noir has to offer. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
