Tasting Notes

The Cartizze area is located in the heart of the Valdobiaddene. Col Vetoraz has set out to define a genuine and pure style of Prosecco, and this sparkler is pure silk on the palate, with aromas of white flowers and yellow fruit flavors. An easy wine to drink before, during and after a meal.

Staff Pick Notes

Here's a sparkling wine that shines in it's own reflection (and it has nothing to do with vanity). Cartizze is a miniature sub- region of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG that makes its finest expressions. It's more coveted in Italy than any other market, which makes it a good secret to know about. Although it may seem counter intuitive to pay more for Prosecco, it will be crystal clear after experiencing this hidden diamond. Col Vetoraz sits atop the peak of the steep hill of Cartizze getting the most favorable sun exposure to the vines. What stands out immediately in the wine is it's remarkable lightness. It has a delicate, frothy texture like sea foam. The palate is lively with notes of golden apple, lemon tart, pollen and pear jam. Subtle, yet with a focused clarity that highlights the superior quality of the vineyard.

Astor's Glossary of Terms

Until recently, "Prosecco" could refer either to a wine or to a white grape. In 2009, however, the grape was renamed "Glera" in a bid to protect Prosecco's good name. Prosecco is usually a sparkling wine made by the Charmat method, though still versions do exist. Because it is so easy to drink, with or without food, Prosecco is a hugely popular choice for parties.
