Staff Pick Notes

Gattinara in Alto-Peidmonte is at a higher elevation than Barolo and Barbaresco and produces wines that are much more lithe with elegant floral notes and alpine herbs. Antoniolo makes his Gattinara in the traditional style using spontaneous fermentation, an 18-day maceration, and aging in large Slavonian and French oak botti. A graceful style of Nebbiolo with notes of rich red cherry and raspberry fruit, rose petals, and forest bramble. The bright acidity and strong tannic spine offers drinkers of Nebbiolo their structural fix. The 375 ml format is perfect for immediate consumption after a short time in-glass, while the the oxygen soothes the grippy tannins. Excellent with Mushroom Risotto or Angnolotti del Plin stuffed with rabbit and served with a light butter sauce and shaved white truffle.
