Patrick and Vincent Soard's Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise encapsulate everything I adore about dessert wines. The Soard brothers were convinced by their mother to take the reins of this immaculate domaine and return it to its previous prestige, going back to the award-winning work of the great-grandfather. Employing great care in the vineyards through the use of organic practices, they manually harvest through several passes to pick grapes with peak maturity of sugars and acid. The Muscat goes through cold fermentation to preserve aromatics and precisely hone in on that balance. Three months on the lees creates a honied, fresh, textured wine with honeysuckle, nectarine, orange peel, and apple juice notes that are incredibly forthcoming. With pitch-perfect length on the finish, this is a great accompaniment for fruit tarts.
