Elisabetta Fagiuoli is a wine pioneer. As soon as she purchased the Montenidoli Estate in 1965, she implemented organic farming principles and practices. She was ridiculed by Italian wine society as female winemakers were scarce and organic agriculture was non-existent. She was never deterred as she knew that being true to her terroir would make great wine. Sono Montenidoli is Elisabetta’s top label amongst her 11 cuvées. It is 100% Sangiovese which has grown on iron rich clay soils at 1100 ft altitude. The wine’s been aged in used barriques for 2 years, then aged in bottle for 3. The wine is intense and complex. It smells of poached red berries, violets, and a dusting of cocoa. The palate has a silky texture with weight, density and fine tannins. This vintage is showing its graceful age but will but will improve for the next 5 years.
