Santenay 1er Cru "Clos Tavannes”, La Pousse d’Or - 2013

Item # 23147 750mL

A red Burgundy with age that is drinking well today. The fruit comes a range of vine ages (the oldest from 1921) and are from soils that are a mix of clay and limestone. An intriguing bottle to enjo alongside baby lamb chops.

Staff Pick Notes

Burgundy lovers have a hard lot in life. Bargains are non-existent, and plonking down a lot of cash still doesn't guarantee a great bottle. But when a producer gets it right, the heavens open and angels descend. It's like no other wine drinking experience, and the quest/struggle begins again. In Burgundy it often comes down to the producer and knowing which you trust and like. One of Burgundy's A-list domaines, La Pousse d'Or, astounds again and again. This 1er cru from Santenay is no exception. On the border of Chassagne-Montrachet, Clos Tavannes is a walled vineyard planted in 1920 with vines sourced from Romanée-Conti. It shows gorgeous aromas of black cherry, forest floor, anise, and herbs. It's elegant with fine-grained tannins that are still in their youth. If drinking now, decant and hear the trumpets sound.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
