Rosso della Castellada, La Castellada

Rosso della Castellada, La Castellada - 2001

Item # 25119 750mL

The red offering from a family producer specializing in indigenous whites. Merlot with a pinch of Cabernet Sauvignon undergoes extended maceration in open vats then placed in new barrique for 45 months. This is not a soft, plush new world style merlot, however. Purple floral notes reminding one of a freshly tilled early summer garden mingle lightly crushed dark cherries. Acidity is guarded, softly supporting the wine's silky tannins. Pair with gamey meaty ragu and pasta.
