Tasting Notes

Lively, fruity, cheerful, zesty, and aromatic, with notes of seashell iodine and ripe-from-the-tree grapefruit approaching at full speed on the palate. Several terroirs contribute to the classic simplicity on this pristine, light white. This is an ideal apéritif or partner to a fish course, as well as light summer fare, but feel free to drink it year round. The Domaine de la Louvetrie is comprised of 64 acres at the top of the appellation and is exclusively planted to Melon de Bourgogne. The soils here are sandy clay over amphibolite rock and gneiss. Winemaker Jo Landron makes benchmark Muscadet from distinct vineyard sites.

Staff Pick Notes

Joseph (Jo) started working along his dad in their family domaine in 1979. After 20 years and his dad's retirement, Jo decided to convert the domaine to organic viticulture, exchanging quantity for quality. Thanks to the help of his friend Guy Brossard from Domaine de l'Ecu (just a few miles away), Jo is now running a biodynamic vineyard of 48 hectares. He is proudly making wines that are a pure representation of the terroir, which translates into minerality. Here we have a very citrusy muscadet, fresh, elegant and lots of sea shell notes that will make this wine a perfect match for seafood. Plus for the price, you don't want to miss out!

Astor's Glossary of Terms

Melon de Bourgogne

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
