Certified Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard. Certified in the country of origin.

Tasting Notes

A carefully blended combination of Baga, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz. This soft red overflows with jammy red fruits, lifting acidity, and round tannins. A solid companion for broiled steak, peppers, and onions.

Staff Pick Notes

Quinta do Montalto, Vinha da Malhada

It’s easy enough to find an approachable European wine farmed according to organic practices. But finding one in an old world style from an estate the same family has been farming since 1880... for under $10 a bottle? Please take note. Vinha da Malhada is a classically constructed Portuguese dry red wine. Its assemblage of native Port varietals--think Touriga Nacional and Baga with some Aragonez (a.k.a. Tempranillo) thrown in for good measure--elicits aromas of forest floor, anise, and spice. Each sip is pleasantly dry and complemented with well-behaved tannins. I am amazed at the level of care that has gone into this bottle and the complexity of the result. Fans of earth-driven and Spanish (or Portuguese) wine, take heed.
