Channing Daughters "Mosaico" - 2017

Item # 28657 750mL

A rare treasure from the South Fork. Decant and serve this white with barbecued or grilled fish tonight. From local Long Island vineyards, Mosaico, this field blend of six different grapes has lovely flavors of citrus fruits and melon. Great mineral notes add interest, while a balanced acidity and a spice-tinged finish round things out.

Staff Pick Notes

Winemaker Chrisopher Tracy is a mad man! I say that with admiration and appreciation. He makes over 20 different cuvees (mostly blends) with his Channing Daughters label and somehow they always turn out polished and food worthy. The Mosaico is aptly named! Take a look at this blend. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Tocai Friulano, Gewürztraminer. Yet, the final product is greater than the sum of its parts; balanced mineral driven, structured, and most of all, delicious.

New York

New York winemakers have embraced international varieties and hit the ground running. The Hudson River Valley is home to the oldest vineyards in New York State. Bordeaux varietals are at home in Long Island’s maritime climate. The Finger Lakes harbors a burgeoning winemaking community where many natural-inclined producers focus on dry still wines. No longer is our fair state synonymous with Concord grapes and Manischewitz; look for brilliant iterations of Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Franc,...

Gewürztraminer

You won't likely forget your first "Gewürz," as they're some of the most distinctive and recognizable wines in the world. They are usually heavily perfumed with rich lychee and rose aromas. The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is an Italian synonym for the French Pinot Gris variety, but many more people have had Pinot Grigio than a Pinot Gris. At its most basic level, the grape produces varietals that are smooth and easy to drink, and perfect with a huge range of dishes that just beg to be paired with a fresh white wine. There is an entire spectrum of Pinot Gris/Grigio, however, the best of them being subtly aromatic and deeply colored, with formidable structures. Most of Italy's Pinot Grigio is grown in...
