No herbicides, pesticides or synthetic chemicals are used in the vineyards.

Staff Pick Notes

Viña Sastre is an admirable estate in Ribera del Duero that makes structured red wines from old vine Tempranillo. Jesus Sastre, who's been the driving force since 2002, is humble and direct about his wines. They're sturdy, bold wines but balanced and elegant nonetheless. This Crianza is particularly refreshing and approachable. On the palate are notes of roasted fruits, mint leaves and salty earth. The tannins give the wine a powdery texture and it has a pleasant weight to it all around. The best surprise for me was that this wine doesn't require the extensive decanting that I've come to associate with the wines from this region. It's enjoyable almost as soon as the bottle is opened. A nice red to pair with a rare steak or papas bravas.

It wasn’t until 1972 that other winemakers began to creep into the region, but now the Ribera del Duero is home to a wealth of fabulous Tempranillo based wines that consistently garner critical...
