Red Newt "Tango Oaks" Riesling - 2017

Item # 29734 750mL

Tango Oaks Vineyard is located less than one half mile from Red Newt Cellars on Cayuga Lake. The first crop hails from a recent vineyard planting on a fruit growing site that dates back centuries. This off-dry Riesling is racy and bright, with aromas of citrus and orange blossom on the nose, and a balanced palate with hints of nectarine and quince. The vibrant interplay of sweetness and acidity creates an intriguing wine to pair with pork loin with grilled peaches and fennel, or with a chilled fruit-based soup.

Staff Pick Notes

Red newt Cellars, located on Lake Seneca started its production in 1998 and the first wine was released in the middle of 1999. Debra and David Whiting, the owners, received a lot of recognition from local and national press and now they are considered one of the most important figures in the wine making scene in the Finger Lakes. From 2014, winemaking is controlled by a great wine expert Kelby Russell: he is keping the quality standards very high. The soils, the steep slopes and the cool continental climate balanced by warmth created by Lake Seneca, make Red Newt Cellar vineyard an ideal site for wine making . This wine is fresh, with lime aromas and intense on the palate with citrus and stone fruit flavors followed by minerality. All well balanced by a great acidity. Delicious!

Though it's now cultivated worldwide, Riesling is nearly synonymous with German wine, and that country's winemakers have lately begun to produce some very exciting dry versions. They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
