Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Tasting Notes

This beauty hails from Ballard Canyon, the first Syrah-focused appellation in California! Stolpman Estate co-ferments a small portion of Viognier with Syrah in the style of Côte-Rôtie. The wine offers a delightful bouquet, followed by elegantly textured fruit flavors. Decant to allow its rich aromas to unfold.

Staff Pick Notes

This wine over-delivers in every way. Grown from Côte-Rôtie cuttings, the Stolpman cuvée is even built like a classic Northern Rhône red: 3% Viognier--a white--and bit of Grenache are fermented, along with Syrah in the same vessel. Here, every sniff is an adventure. Just some of the notes I picked out are red cherry, heady perfume, and Kansas City BBQ. Because this wine is built to last, it is tight when it is first opened. Decant for 30 minutes for best results.

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it...
