Tasting Notes

Basalt and volcanic soils are ideal for white wines and the white Garganega thrives on it in the vineyards which are located in the Alpone Valley. The Monte Majore vineyard is one of Soave's best-known sites stretching all around the top of the extinct volcano of the same name. The Posenato family has 1.5 hectares of Garganega vines and they were planted by pergola in 1948. The Le Albare estate is in its 4th generation of production under the direction of Stefano Posenato. Although fine Soaves such as this are meant to be enjoyed in their youth, this has the pedigree to age for a good decade.

Staff Pick Notes

Soave was at one point a popular wine in the US. For the life of me I can't figure out why it's not anymore. These are wines that have a familiar and even tempered fruit charcter, incredible minerality, and refreshingly bone dry. They also speak to a fascinating terroir that involves volcanic soils and are based on the ancient Italian variety Garganega which has its own fascinating history. And they are an incredible value for the quality you can find. Superb ones are found for $15 such as the one before us the Monte Majore by Le Albare. This wine is deep and satisfying for such a modest price. The acidity is high so pair with cheese or a Mediterranean seafood dish. Drink more Soave this year!
