I love to try wines made from grapes associated with a specific style or part of the world that produce unexpected & delicious results in a new environment. Case in point: Mayu PX. Pedro Ximenez - native to the hot, dry climate of Andalucia - becomes a totally different creature when grown in South America. This variety is most notable for Sherry and sweet wine production in Spain, but in the high altitude vineyards of Chile, Pedro Ximenez commonly serves as a base for Pisco production. When vinified into a dry table wine, the results provide a refreshing surprise - suggestions of fresh Brazil nuts, vegetal aromas, and a bit of brine are anything but dessert wine flavors. If the austerity of Muscadet appeals to your palate, but you prefer the texture & weight of Grenache Blanc or Viognier, this juice might be the answer.
