Tasting Notes

Vibrant, mineral-driven Assyrtiko from the island of Santorini. Expressive with stone fruits, red delicious apple, jasmine, flint, and ash. The winery is the second oldest winery in the Island and dates back to 1880.

Staff Pick Notes

Assyrtiko has garnered a bad reputation of being a Sauvingnon Blanc imitation. Pour a glass of this and have that opinion disappear. This Assyrtiko is complex and aromatic with a slight oxidative note. While full of lemon peel and candied pineapple, it's not a fruit bomb, but more akin to a sec Vouvray. The intensity of flavor and racy acidity makes it a great match for fowl, pork, and rich seafood.

Astor's Glossary of Terms

Assyrtiko

Pronounced "a SEER tee ko". This white varietal is native to Santorini and the other Aegean Islands. Used to make crisp dry wines similar in style to dry Riesling, it is often blended with other varietals - both indigenous and international - such as Sauvignon Blanc. This grape is also used to make the popular Greek dessert wine, Vinsanto.
