Big wines from northern Italy can often be frustrating to drink. So many of them will be in their prime 10 to 15 years from now. That’s a little bit longer than waiting in line to see Star Wars! Ba-dum Tish! Though in all seriousness, with such an insurmountable obstacle most wine drinkers don’t give these bottles the time of day. That’s why I’ve done the “grunt work” for you by tasting through lots of them, and there are treasures to be found. This particular Barbaresco from Rizzi is showing surprisingly well despite its youth. A delicate nose of raspberry tea and a silky palate of exotic dried fruits. There’s just enough acid to make you smack your lips and eagerly tilt your glass back for another sip.
