Tasting Notes

The Veuve Fourny estate is located in the Premier Cru village of Vertus. This vintage, tête de cuvée monopole is a showstopper: full-bodied on the palate with a supple texture and aromas of meyer lemons and flowers. This blanc de blancs has remarkable potential to age in the cellar. The base wine was vinified in barrel with final disgorgement taking place after 9 years of lees aging.

Staff Pick Notes

The stunning gold box and regal bottle shape suggest this wine is fancy, but its price hides just how rare and precious the wine is inside. Cuvée du Clos Nôtre Dame hails from an excellent vintage, 60-year old chardonnay vines, and a single, walled-vineyard staked out by the same monks who famously carved up Burgundy. I'm privileged to have tasted this gorgeous tête-de-cuvée, which is regal and unctuous and ready to drink. It is only made in years when weather conditions permit, then it's aged for 9 years(!) resulting in maybe a couple hundred bottles.

These winemakers control every...

During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking...
