Staff Pick Notes

In Burgenland, the Austrian region where this wine is made, producers took example from the main wine regions in France, planting French varieties. They realized at a later time that the area had great terroir resources and the indigenous grapes where growing better. Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt quickly became the two most important red grape varieties in Austria. State-of-the-art wineries are now creating very interesting and delicious wines. This wine has intense aromas of red fruit. On the palate the fruity notes are followed by floral ones. Delicate and finessed, but, at the same time, possessing enough body and acidity. It's a versatile wine that would be a great partner to many dishes, pasta and poultry especially.

These are often ageworthy wines, and they're some of the best things coming out of Austria these days.
