Item # 35100 750mL

Gemischter Satz originated as a co-fermented field blend produced from vineyards around Vienna, but the much-beloved style has spread throughout Austria over the years. Staff Pick Notes

Gemischter Satz [ge-meesh-teh zatz] An amazingly fun word to say and a remarkably delicious wine to drink. Unlike most varietal labels you will find on a wine bottle, Gemischter Satz refers to a field blend of over 20 allowed grapes. Coming from 35 hectares on steep hillsides just outside of Vienna, Neumeister’s blending is built around 40-year-old Gelber Muskateller vines, with Welschriesling, Müller-Thurgau, and Scheurebe rounding out the blend. This leads to a wonderfully diverse flavor profile. With the body somewhere in the land of Sauvignon Blanc, the acidity is very reserved. It is beautiful floral and deep with mountainous minerality. Mild in acidity so feel free to serve this wine with very flavorful foods. Preserved and pickled items will shine. There is never a bad time to enjoy a cold glass of Gemischter Satz.

The variety is cultivated all over the world, but the best examples tend to come from Alsace: these are full-bodied wines with a golden color. The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...

Austria

Austrian wine is finally getting the attention it deserves. Ever since the late 1980s, Austrian winemaking has taken a much more rigorous approach to quality control, and returned to its roots in organic viticulture.Deservedly famous for its white wines (Grüner Veltliners especially), Austria makes a number of delicious red wines as well. The most widely grown red grape in Austria is Zweigelt (a.k.a. Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
