I tell people, “Merlot has had a bad reputation for a long time now and for no good reason.” and they say, “C’mon Sam, you saw Sideways…” “Despite the wisdom of Hollywood, there’s great Merlot out there.” “Well then what should we try?!” I’m usually at a loss of what to suggest but luckily Matthiasson makes Merlot. The aroma of spiced plums and roasted coffee single handedly puts color in your cheeks. The palate serves up ripe plums and rich black fruits straight from a Heem still life. There’s a light touch of wood creating a silken texture without obscuring the great fruit. The good news is this drinks great now, the better news is it will only improve with time.
