Tasting Notes

The Perillo estate only releases Riserva level wines, believing that the wine needs extra time aging before it is ready to drink. This older vintage is showing sanguine, blood orange fruit flavors and grippy tannins. An excellent match for osso bucco and wild boar.

A dark forest can be both foreboding and enticing all at once. Some enter its darkness and emerge a new person, and others don’t emerge at all. But curious people are easily coaxed inside. I have similar feelings about wine. There are wines that are fresh and bountiful, that give you a feeling of “my cup overfloweth.” Though these wines teach us little about ourselves. Then there are wines like this Taurasi that are earthen, savory, and mysterious. Its succulent fruits and refreshing herbs are tucked under a thicket of dry branches, but reach for them, they’re worth it. This will continue to change until it’s all gone. So please, close your eyes, and follow your nose. Get lost in this, and it will either change you or take you.
