Touraine "La Tesnière" Pineau d'Aunis, Pierre-O Bonhomme - 2021

Item # 36596 750mL

Twenty year old Pineau d'Aunis from clay and limestone soils. After hand-harvesting the fruit there was a whole cluster, 15 day maceration. The wine was then fermented and aged in 225 liter barrels for 8 months. If you've never had a Pineau d'Aunis, you're in for an aromatic red wine from one of the handful of great natural producers in the Loire Valley.

Staff Pick Notes

When all of the Christmas lights have been torn down and the trees with their trail of pine needles have been kicked to the curb, that's when the winter doldrums really start to kick in. It's still dark when you wake up, dark when you go home from work and you've just dropped your 7th glove of the season while exiting the subway. Sometimes you want a wine that will wrap you up in a hug and tell you everything is going to be okay. Pineau d'Aunis may not be the richest, most robust wintry wine around, but to me it tastes like magic and feels like sunshine. Soft and supple. Tart, juicy red fruit, lightly peppered, with a rosy undertone that feels like Spring is almost around the corner.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
