Tasting Notes

Canaiulo is an ancient Tuscan red grape that's made into Elisabetta Fagiuoli's sole rosé wine. The Montenidoli estate is literally and figuratively a mountain, located above the historic town of San Gimignano. A great foil for anything from soft cheeses to braised chicken.

This has always been one of my favorite rosés and it never fails to bring a smile to my face when it comes back. Alongside Sangiovese and Colorino, Canaiulo is one of the 3 main red grapes of Tuscany. Centuries ago it may have played a bigger role but now is wholly subservient to Sangiovese. So cheers to Montenidoli for showcasing Canaiulo as a rosé. It shines. Now 2 years since this was produced, it is showing beautifully; bright and fresh with a texture and refinement that comes with age.
