Tasting Notes

Not only are the wines from Paolo Pizzorni incredibly delicious, they're the types of wines that over-deliver. This is a gorgeous, dry white wine made from the Cortese grape variety. It's unoaked and all about lively, fresh white flowers and yellow plum fruit character. The acidity is fresh and we find this wine ideal with hors d'oeuvres such as burrata smothered in olive oil or even oysters. The Pizzorni estate is located in the Acqui area of Piedmont which is a small, narrow valley full of rugged terrain. This very aspect of topography is ideal for the Cortese grape.

Looking to switch up your Gavi game? This Cortese from nearby Monferrato offers an interesting take on the same grape. Geographically speaking, Gavi lies in the southeastern region of Piedmont & boasts mineral rich soils. Winemaking and food lean more toward the coastal Ligurian style and these wines typically offer lemon, lime and green apple flavors supported by white flowers and bright acidity. Move a bit north to Monferrato and the landscape becomes more hilly. Soils change to tuffeau - flinty clay & limestone. Cortese grown here offers a fleshier wine with a bit more apricot and spice. The texture is also a bit more rounded. Think a few miles don't make much difference? Try this wine for a twist on an Italian favorite.
