Fledermaus Weiss, 2Naturkinder - 2020

Item # 37125 750mL

Fledermaus is the German word for bat and winemaker Micheal Voelker finds them very helpful in the vineyard. This wine drinks like lemonade, full of thirst quenching citrus flavors. Müller-Thurgau is aged on lees in oak, Silvaner and Riesling are aged on lees in stainless. The final product is 60% Müller-Thurgau, 28% Silvaner, 12% Riesling. All direct press. The wine is not racked and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with zero addition of sulfur.

Staff Pick Notes

Beyond the spectrum of amazing Rieslings from the Mosel, Rhinegau, Pfalz and beyond, Germany has so much to offer with their indigenous varietals. This wine is something I admittedly needed to sit down for some time with to fully appreciate. 2Naturkinder is farming all their grapes from organically, all hand harvested and without the inclusion of sulfur. The Fledermaus Weiss is a blend of Muller-Thrugau and Silvaner with a small portion of Riesling for their 2018 vintage all from limestone soils. Full malolactic fermentation and aging on the lees provides a rounder and fuller body for this lemonade tinted white. Aromas of salted melons, passionfruit and saline sea breezes compound with flavors of tart lemons, white pepper and crunchy wet gravel that make this wine feel cozy. The cute bat label is a bonus too.
