Tasting Notes

Specogna is a 20 hectare estate located in northern Italy in Friuli. The estate was started in the 1960s and this bold red wine made from the local Refosco grape variety comes from vines planted as early as 1975. After a 20 day maceration then fermentation, the wine was aged in large, old French barrels. This Refosco is bold with very dark fruit aromas, lively acidity and tannins. Clearly a winner at the tableside.

Refosco is actually the name of a group of red grape varieties - but as they produce wines that are nearly indistinguishable, the word "Refosco" is often used as if it were a single grape.
