Le Gamay de l’Allié "BiNaume," Claire Naudin - 2020

Item # 38112 750mL

This wine was originally going to be used in a Passetoutgrain, but winemaker Claire Naudin, thought it was so good, she bottled it separately into this delicious, pure expression of Gamay. This is a delightful match for burgers or steak frites.

Staff Pick Notes

To my humble palate, Le Gamay de l'Allie is natural wine at its best. I brought this bottle home after trying a different wine by Claire Naudin (a cuvée for her late father's estate, seek this Ladoix 1er Cru "La Corvée", Dom. Henri Naudin-Ferrand for further oenological enlightenment). I popped the cork on Le Gamay, poured myself a hefty glass, and carried on with my post-work activities (TV, crossword, the boring usual). Remembering I had some vino, I took a sip and that's when it happened, the explosion. An explosion of taste as if I ate gamay flavored pop rocks. Fruit, texture, excitement...Le Gamay is a whole greater than its parts. And I swear, when you get down to the last few drops in the glass you can see a big swirl of glitter. Natural wine, when done like this, might not throw sediment. Instead it throws a party.

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
