Tasting Notes

Les Vins Pirouttes is a project launched by Christian Binner, natural winemaker extraordinaire. He works with growers to bottle their own wines instead of selling the grapes to cooperatives. "Brutal" is a wild orange wine, made from Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. The wine spends18 days macerating on the skins and 11 months in traditional large Alsatian foudre. Fermented with native yeasts and bottled unfiltered with zero addition of sulfur. Vibrant citrus notes and lingering tannins on the finish. This wine is not for everyone, but it will please the adventurous palate.

From what I gather Brutal as a label curates outlandish, natural winemakers from all over the world. These individuals make one wine among their normal production that is different, funky, brutal in some way. These wines are sudden, fleeting. Small production. Now-you-see-me-now-you-don’t types. This wine is made from the hands of Christian Binner. A name that has become a synonym for Alsatian natural wine making. A vivid blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The color of cloud watching under marmalade skies turning into a rusty copper with the night. Tastes like grapefruits the size of softballs tinged with red and orange sun spots. Dried chamomile tea, crunchy fallen leaves all tangled in a thicket of pale yellow honey suckle. It tastes like getting lost in your mothers kitchen phone cord. The complexity incessant.
