Staff Pick Notes

So much of the Burgundy wines we see on the shelves are from recent vintages. And while a little youthful exuberance is often still pleasurable, a wine showing its experience can be a revelation. This 2010 Chambolle Musigny from La Pousse d'Or is a prime example. From an extraordinary vintage, this wine still has some of its youthful power and richness of fruit, but the years have added complexity and softness. The color has developed into a pale garnet while the aromas hint at red cherry, pomegranate, and old leather. It's an incredibly elegant wine, with more of those red cherry notes, baking spices, and dried leaves. It's drinking extraordinarily well right now and would be an excellent choice for a special occasion.

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
