Staff Pick Notes

Deep, earthy and alive. This is old vine Côt firmly footed in an old world style. In the case of La Grange Tiphaine it is coming from century old vines planted in clay and silica soils in the Touraine Amboise AOC of the Loire valley. The wine is incredibly dense at first. It needs decanting to open up. But when it does a refined ruggedness perks up beautifully. Licorice, tar, graphite and savory, bitter roots and herbs abound on the palate. A layer of red fruit is buried underneath the bushes and brambles. The tannins have a subtle grip to them. It's akin to peppery reds of the Northern Rhône or Cahors, but with a distinctly cool climate point of view. Pair with sirloin steak bathed in rosemary and frites.
