Staff Pick Notes

I brought this bottle over to mom’s house when she made braised lamb for dinner and boy was she happy. If anyone knows how to cook lamb it’s the Greeks, and this blend of Xinomavro, Merlot, and Syrah is the perfect pairing for lamb or any red meat that's falling off the bone. A posse of dark cherries met up with some cocoa and vanilla beans and definitely became best friends inside this delectable bottle. Luscious, full-bodied, but deliciously smooth, you’ll find yourself going back for a sip after every bite. Let it breathe for a little while and dig in. So enjoy this wine with your meat and cheese tonight, but remember to buy a second bottle and make your mom happy. She’s worth it.

Merlot

The next time you hear someone say they never touch Merlot, tell them that it's too bad, because you were just about to open a few bottles of Château Pétrus and Le Pin, and you have no one to share them with. Some wine drinkers are quick to dismiss varieties that become too fashionable, but Merlot is popular for good reason. It has one of the most impressive and distinctive textures of any wine, and has long been prized for the "softening" effect it can have on Cabernet Sauvignon - especially...

Syrah

We'd like to clear this up once and for all: the Shiraz grape is genetically identical to Syrah. Australian winemakers put "Shiraz" on the map (and, many would argue, vice versa), and the term is now used throughout much of the New World. Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...

Xynomavro

Pronounced "ksee NO ma vro", this is one of Greece’s most important red varietals. The primary grape of Naoussa, this grape produces wines of extraordinary depth and complexity. Frequently likened to Nebbiolo, these wines are dark and tannic in their youth, and benefit immensely from ageing. Typical aromas are black olive, cooking spices, earth, and black fruit.
