Pétillant Naturel "Pour de Vrai", Ch. Puech Redon - 2022

Item # 40076 750mL

An aromatic sparkling Pet Nat made from Cinsault and Aramon vines from the Languedoc. Just the slightest pink color in the glass, the fine bead is delicious with delicate grapefruit and stone fruit flavors. Puech-Redon is a large property: in total 380 hectares are split between 200 hectares of cereals, 52 hectares of vines and over 100 hectares of woods. Third generation winemaker Cyril Cuche employs organic agriculture, prioritizing biodiversity. Cyril's grandfather acquired this land in the aftermath of World War 2, and Cyril himself has been at the helm for over 20 years.

Staff Pick Notes

Domaine Puech Redon is family estate of winemaker Cyril Cuche. Cyril celebrates biodiversity and his winemaking style is decidedly "minimal intervention". He has maintained his vineyards organically since 2008. In the years since, he has also consistently reduced the total hectares of his estate production, now using only 16 hectares of his best terroir. This unbelievable pétillant naturel, produced with 85% Cinsault and 15% Syrah, was the collaboration between Puech Redon and famed Rhône producer Eric Texier. The color may blush slightly pink, but I experienced this wine to be a soft amber. Persistent lychee fruit notes lingered throughout the sip. The naturally induced bubbles were fine and dry on the palate, consistent and balanced throughout the bottle. It was a joy to to drink!

Glossary

Syrah

We'd like to clear this up once and for all: the Shiraz grape is genetically identical to Syrah. Australian winemakers put "Shiraz" on the map (and, many would argue, vice versa), and the term is now used throughout much of the New World. Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
