Pecorino d'Abruzzo "Baldovino", Tenuta I Fauri - 2019

Item # 40180 750mL

Pecorino is not only the name of a sheep's cheese in Italy, it's also the name of a native white grape that thrives in the Chieti area of Abruzzo. The vines are very near the sea and benefit from the cooling breeze of the ocean. Wines work well with their native cuisine but really anything seafood would make a remarkable match to this delicious bottle.

Staff Pick Notes

I yearn for the times when outdoor dining meant sitting in the closing hours of the sun with its warmth reflecting off your face. A perfectly grilled, whole, white fish, possibly branzino, and some lightly charred vegetables would be on my plate. A squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of sea salt would be the only additions, well, besides the wine, of course. That wine would be the Tenuta I Fauri "Baldovino" Pecorino. This wine, named after the hearders who looked after the flocks of sheep, comes from the Abruzzo region of Italy. It's from the hills that gently slope down the Maiella Mountains to the Adriatic Sea. Fresh acidity is balanced out by a beautifully textured wine with notes of fresh yellow apples, under-ripe tropical fruit and fresh notes of mint. A saline-mineral finish shows length and cleans the palate.

Glossary

Abruzzi

Situated on the eastern calf of the Italian boot, Abruzzi is one of the most prolific wine-growing regions in Italy. Two-thirds mountains and one-third hills, it boasts highly favorable natural conditions for the cultivation of grapes. Abruzzi is most famous for its beautiful expressions of the red Montepulciano and the white Trebbiano, though many winemakers are now beginning to experiment with other grape varietals as well.
