Campi Raudii, Vallana - 2018

Item # 41180 750mL

Campi Raudii is a Nebbiolo based cuvee (90% Spanna, Uva Rara and Vespolina) whose story dates back to the Roman period, when viticulture was brought in this area. The area being the Alto Piemonte, the alpine area in the north of the state. Having tasted 50 year old bottles, we know how well Spanna, the local name for Nebbiolo, can age when in the right hands - Vallana being a top estate, makes incredibly age-worthy wines.

Staff Pick Notes

A blend of Spanna (the local name for Nebbiolo) Uva Rara, and Vespolina, the Vallana family emphasizes the elegance and alluring charm of Nebbiolo within the region’s acidic soils. Vallana sits in the village of Maggiora, more than 100 miles north of Barolo with vineyard sites planted on gently sloping terraces along the left bank of the river Sesia and Lake Maggiore. Revealing its true riveting nature after some time decanting, this tawny hued beauty displays aromatics of dried cranberry, strawberry, cherry, and soft rose hips. The tannins open up, showing its silky texture, elegant structure and finesse with flavors of raspberry, prune, spicy red licorice, balsamic, roses and worn supple leather.
