Saint Amour, Dom. de Fa - 2020

Item # 41431 750mL

The Graillot family recently purchased a bucolic 5 ha property in the Beaujolais and can now add this Saint Amour Cru to their long line up of excellent wines they produce. This comes from a single vineyard, Côtes de Besset, whose soils are full of granite and sand. Whole cluster fermenation with a semi-carbonic maceration. Aged in older foudre.

Staff Pick Notes

As a Beaujolais junky, I’m duly impressed by a muscular Morgon or a bold Brouilly. But I must confess that my heart belongs to Saint- Amour. The wines of this commune are not the exceptions, but rather the ideal when it comes to lively, fresh, and elegant Beaujolais. Maxine and Antoine are the sons of Rhône icon Alain Graillot, so the steep slopes and granite soil where their Gamay vibes grow must have made them feel right at home. And behind the bright berry fruit, notes of game and earth bear, shall we say, a family resemblance to dad’s Saint- Joseph. I feel obliged to recommend a pairing, so ..... but this is also a wine that is splendid to enjoy on its own.

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
